Tulum

Tulum boasts one of the most visited Mayan ruins, picturesquely situated at the Mexican Caribbean coastline with its crystal clear turquoise water and white sandy beaches. It is one of the best preserved Mayan sites and the only Mayan city built by the sea, in the heart of the “Riviera Maya”. The Tulum beaches rank among the most beautiful beaches in the world. The city of Tulum, still with the air of a small quiet village, is coming to life with the many restaurants and bars on the main avenue and along the famous Tulum beach, where tourists can choose from a great variety of Mexican and international cuisine or stride along for shopping after a relaxing bath in the Carribean sea or in one of the refreshing cenotes nearby Tulum. The Tulum city center is 4 km away from the Tulum beach, behind the tropical jungle that stretches from the white sandy beach up to downtown Tulum, interrupted only by a few single family houses. This is where our Spanish language school is located, between the Tulum beach and downtown Tulum, right in the middle of lush tropical vegetation, in a garden setting with beautiful tropical flowers, birds, and butterflies.

Cenotes

Tulum is also famous for its cenotes, natural crystalline fresh water pools amidst tropical jungle which are connected to the vast underground rivers. The best cenotes in the Tulum area are located south of Tulum and along the road from Tulum to the Mayan ruins of Coba (Gran Cenote, Cenote Dos Ojos and many more).

Coba

Together with Tulum and Chichen Itza, Coba is one of the Yucatan Peninsula’s most picturesque and popular archeological ruins. Coba contains the second highest Mayan temple. It is a beautiful archeological site where you can walk or rent a bicycle to move around from one excavated ruin to the other on the pathways amidst tropical jungle. You can climb up one of the pyramids and have a fantastic view of the surrounding jungle from the top. Coba is located 42 km northwest of Tulum and can easily be reached by car, bus, or taxi for a rewarding day trip from Tulum.

Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve

Sian Ka’an, “where the sky is born” in Maya, is a habitat for thousands of birds, terrestrial and aquatic animals and contains well preserved archeological ruins, some over 2000 years old. Many tour operators in Tulum offer day trips into the reserve for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, bird watching and hiking in this stunning place listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.

Xel-Ha

Xel-Ha is a water park only a short drive away from Tulum by car, bus or taxi. It is considered the world’s largest natural aquarium where you can dive and snorkel among hundreds of tropical fish and more than 90 marine species, swim with dolphins, or simply swim along the river and enjoy the surrounding tropical vegetation.

Temazcal

A temazcal is a traditional indigenous steam bath that has been used for healing and ritual purposes in Mexico for hundreds of years. A guided temazcal “SensoNature & Temazcal” can be booked directly at our Spanish school and is conducted on the school premises by an experienced guide. Students’ discount available!

Other Activities

The Riviera Maya boasts the second largest reef in the world where you can practise snorkeling or scuba-diving. Many diving centers in Tulum offer diving tours and diving lessons. The reef is located just a few minutes by boat from the beautiful Tulum beaches. There is also a kite surfing school on the Tulum beach. At night you will find live music in many bars and restaurants in the Tulum city center and salsa-dancing with live music on the Tulum beach. Salsa-lessons can be booked in our school! Upon request we will arrange cooking courses, painting classes and workshops of Mayan language, Mayan culture and Mayan handicraft. We will be happy to assist you in finding the appropriate cultural activities and tours around Tulum for you.
